Games

A few ideas have emerged lately, mainly over beer. It's time they became practical - backed up by actual code.

Trix

Trix is a work-in-progress to develop free and fair networked slot-car games for anyone who misses that old Scalextric set which is gathering dust in an attic somewhere. It will lay down a suitable specification of what gets passed between a server and assorted clients where the server calculates all the physics and the clients make it as pretty as they fancy. sdlTrix is a portable implementation of a sample server and client using the Simple DirectMedia Layer (SDL).

Purple Mars?

Still beertalk. A strategy game inspired by the fine novels by Kim Stanley Robinson - Red Mars, Green Mars and Blue Mars. Note that's inspired by, not authorised lives-in-the-world-of. The novels are great stuff and between them have collected a gaggle of prestigious awards.

Gef has some code - but I don't know more than that, as I don't run Windows B-P.

In truth, I've seen it running a while back - and it does roughly the right thing. There is still much to do to get beyond the pub-muttering stages.
